”Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.”
Psalm, 26:2
Coming under divine scrutiny
David presented himself before God for scrutiny. He knew he could not hide anything from the Eyes that run to and fro.
Can you see that David streamlined his examination to the most crucial part, the heart.
Real faith and true spirituality issue from the heart. It is not the outward flamboyance of shallow impressive religion. It is not the outward lips that betray a rotten conscience.
What matters most to God is the content and intent of the innerman. A penitent heart that is purified by the blood is better than a boisterous life with skeleton – ridden cupboard.
Even if we have erred, coming to God with a sense of surrender/submission is a sure pathway to restoration.
Grace upon Grace (1 Jn 1:16).
